Decisions in an RtI practice are based on professional judgment informed directly by school wide student performance data. Data-based decision making is infused in all components of an RTI practice including PBS at our school. At the school wide level, data would be used to make decisions based on the following areas: location of problem behavior, time, problem behavior, and monthly referral data. Having data showing which areas and locations of the issues occurring assist us in making changes to our Tier 1 interventions. In the progress monitoring stage, data is used to make decisions about effectiveness of interventions.
What does the data tell us?
Decisions on changes to PBS/ Tier 1 interventions are made based on school wide student referral data. Important points on data based decision making include the following: Relies on accurate and reliable discipline referral data to understand the behaviors occurring across campus. Analysis of the data allows for identification of problem areas → brainstorm interventions such as where and what to teach, reward the students exhibiting the expected behavior, and communicate findings.During the monthly PBS meetings school wide data will be reviewed and the team will use the problem solving model to identify problems and interventions to improve problem area.
